Rembering retired Chief Don Norviell
Posted February 7, 2012 by iaff2601Categories: Uncategorized
We are sad to announce a great loss to our FD and FF Association. Don was instrumental in organizing not only FWBFD but most of ALL surrounding FD’s in the panhandle. THANK YOU CHIEF for standing up and making a way…You will be missed!
Mr. Donald Leroy Norviel, II age 67 of DeFuniak Springs passed away Thursday, February 2, 2012 at the family residence. . He was born July 2, 1944 in Highland Park, Michigan the son of Donald Leroy Norviel, Sr. and Anita Evelyn Townsend Norviel. After a tour of duty with the United States Navy, Don became a firefighter, working thirty years with the Fort Walton Beach Fire Department where he served as President of the Fire Fighter’s Union, an organization he helped form in Fort Walton Beach and in other fire departments throughout Northwest Florida. He was an avid Pro-Life Activist, a cause he felt very deeply about. In 2005 after retirement he and his wife moved to the DeFuniak Springs area because of his love of the outdoors. He loved hunting and fishing with his sons-in-law and had a great love for animals, raising horses and donkeys, goats and any other critters that just happened up. Don was a member of Saint Margaret Catholic Church. He is predeceased by his son Clinton Eugene Cox.
Chief Dutton “suddenly retires”
Posted June 20, 2011 by iaff2601Categories: Uncategorized
We are regretfully announcing the sudden retirement of current Fire Chief as seen in the Daily News article here. Our highly revered and respected Fire Chief Mike Dutton “retired” after 10 years of faithful service to the Fort Walton Beach FD. Chief Dutton helped to continue in keeping the Fort Walton Beach FD a Dept. of “1st’s” (in many things) as it always has been, mostly by implementing the 1st Advanced Life Support FD in the county along with the 2 man special Rescue truck in the downtown district. Chief you will be missed.
In other news The FWB Firefighters regret to announce that, along with Chief Dutton, went the county special operations unit and it’s assetts. FWBFD is no longer in the position to staff and or operate the unit as effectively as under Chief Dutton’s previous leadership. Chief Dutton was instrumental on bringing that unit to the city and participated heavily on it’s operation even on the state level. Again his lack of participation with that vital assett prompted the removal of the unit from our headquarters. It is now stationed @ OCWFCD St-2. FWBFD members are committed to continue to participate in the truck operations county wide and beyond.

A busy couple of shifts for the “A” lately. Last shift on the 1st T-6 & R-6 were dispatched to a cardiac arrest. The pt. was found in full cardiac arrest, unresponsive, by arriving crews and due to paramedic medicine coupled with quick actions by both crews a pulse was recovered and the man was able to make it to the cath lab at FWBMC.
Later that evening at dinner time T-6 was alerted to a structure fire on the far west end of our district(OCW E-3 & MEFD E-11 1st due) and arrived on scene to do some truck work, venting windows, forcing doors, securing utilities, and conducting a search. Luckily everyone got out of the house safely and E-3 made quick knock down of the bedroom fire. Check out the photos on NWF Daily News here
First thing this morning at shift change once again T-6 was alerted for a structure fire in OCW’ss 1st due area behind the autozone on Racetrack road for a working townhouse fire. T-6 arrived and was assigned rapid intervention, ventilation, and search for hidden fire on the 3rd floor. OCW E-1 made a great stop on the fire with help from Eglin FD.
