B-shift enjoyed some training out at St-7 tower today with OCW crews. BC Isaakson from ECFR is the areas training Chief and put on a good class the last three days. A photo of the boys during their break below.

Busy couple of days

The A & B have been busy. Among the many calls the following are some highlights of this week.

On A shift, MVA with rollover, no injuries here

Early morning, smoke filled Gary Smith Honda. Upon arrival of T-6 R-6 B-6 light smoke was filling the showroom. Upon laddering the building and further investigation a belt had burned up in the HVAC system. T-6 set up the vent fan to clear the building.

On the way back to the station for crew change T-6 was assigned to a mobile home fire in OCW E-3 district. E-3 reported heavy smoke and fully invovled single wide upon arrival. T-6 & Bat-6 were attached as RIT. Daily News story here

This afternoon T-6 Bat-6 responded to the Island to assist in a hotel fire. Upon 4 arrival apparent fire in the duct work spread smoke throughout the building and initiated an evacuation of the building. T-6 assisted in locating hot spots and search for hidden fire.

Late this evening on the Bat-6, R-6, & T-6 were called for a MVA. upon arrival crews found a gun shot victim(chest) and initiated ALS procedures. The sad story here

Trauma call

B-Shift downtown crews were faced with a traumatic injury call upon the first few minutes of the shift. A man was filling tire on a hand dolly when the 2 part rim blew up and struck his face. A trauma alert was radioed and the pt. transported to FWBMC due to no helicopter transport.

Award for a little Hero

Chief Large was able to give an award to one unlikely hero is 11-year-old Catherine Davis. She became a hero when she helped ensure the safety of 22 students after her bus driver became temporarily incapacitated during an accident. Great Job Catherine! Read the Daily News story here

Townhome fire 02.28.10

Fire in west end of city. MEFD E-11 & R-6 first due. E-11 made quick work of a bedroom fire while R-6 handled truck work while T-6 was assigned to a med run! T-6 later made the appearance to lend a hand. Mary Esther Fire Department, Okaloosa Island Fire Department, Okaloosa Special Operations and a Battalion Chief from Ocean City-Wright Fire Department responded to the fire.

Multi alarm vacant commercial

T-6 & E-7 assisted on a 2 alarm in a vacant commercial building today. Heavy smoke showing on arrival while moderate N to NW winds fanned the flames.
E-4 & T-4 OIFD were first due while T-6 & E-7 were next on the assignement. The 2nd alarm brought OCW E-3 & Destin E-10, & MEFD E-11 to the scene. More photos to come, check out the Daily News report here


Early morning fire

Early morning in Shalimar puts 3rd due E-7 to work. Upon arrival of OCW T-2 heavy fire & smoke was reported. E-7 was able to make 3rd due just behind OCW E-1(water supply) and advance the initial hoseline. Check out the Daily News report here
